Meet Zoe!

On October 31, 2021, this little girl walked right up to a Blackhat Humane Society volunteer near Narbona Pass in New Mexico and it’s a good thing she did. She was pregnant, very skinny and walking with a limp. They contacted us to see if we could foster her and I drove to meet their volunteer the next day.

I noticed that she was favoring her back right leg so we took her to the vet and they discovered that the ball on the end of her right femur is missing! It was probably shattered during an injury and that leg is attached to her pelvis by muscle alone! Eventually, she’ll need a hip replacement.

We also discovered that there around around 9 puppies in there…and she only weighs 26lbs. This poor little girl is so sweet and such a trooper. We are so glad to have her here with us.

Update: 9 healthy puppies were born on Saturday, November 6, 2021

Update: Zoe and her puppies have all been adopted

Meet Maggie!

Everyone was adopted!

Maggie was rescued by volunteers at Blackhat Humane who specialized in animals found on various reservations in the Southwest. She was found wandering and they suspected she was pregnant. She was transported to our home on April 10, 2020 by some wonderful volunteers in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.

When she arrived, she was quiet and timid but we soon realized that she is an incredibly sweet and silly dog. We haven’t introduced her to our household pets yet but they have seen each other from a few feet away and she has great dog communication skills and shows no aggression or fear. We had our chickens near her kennel and she barely paid them any attention. She will be a great dog and available for adoption from Blackhat Humane around the end of June or beginning of July, 2020.

Update: 10 healthy puppies were born on Mother’s Day May 10, 2020
